why don't you set _AMvarnm to missing values (a dot). then Amelia will
name the variables for you and this error shouldn't occur.
THe other problem I think is with the operating system.

I am getting the following error message when trying to run amelia for windows:
_AMvarnm has too many variable names to match each variable in the
dataset. Delete variable names, or set _AMvarnm=. for default variable
names (default = var1 var2 ... ).
Amelia for windows does not allow me to specify the _AMvarnm value, as far
as I can tell.
Have narrowed my dataset down to 20 variables, 2 of which I am identifying
as ordinal (-1, 0, 1 for one of them 0, 1, 2, 3 for the other).
It is a TCSC data set with 15 countries, 39 years, N = 585. 9 variables are
fully specified, remainder missing bet. 30 and 90 observations. any
suggestions? I know the suggestion has been made in other situations to
work with a smaller data set. Does that mean eliminating fully specified
variables helps, or just that I should try eliminating variables which are
missing data?
Thanks,

I don't see any problem. My guess is that it ishow you have the file set
up. Can someone offer some advice?

Gary
Thanks for the tip. But the problem still prevails.
I have attached three files.
1. Aust1.csv is a test data which has 1,587 cases and 5 variables (v1 - v5). The
first two variables are continuous, and the last three binomial. The data file
is in the same directory as is the software (d:\amelia).
2. Gsrun.cfg file in which I have changed the default workspace value to 50m.
3. Gauss.log file showing the error message.
Cheers(See attached file: aust1.csv)(See attached file: Gsrun.cfg)(See attached
file: gauss.log)

I'm guessing its the directory into which you have it installed. See
http://gking.harvard.edu/amelia/node50.html and let me know if that
doesn't do it.

I co-worker of mine appears to be having the same problem as described by Robert
Petrin (4/25/02).
Robert, could you email me in private and let me know which drives/folders had
the protection on them? I have a suspicion that it's the WinNT folder (again,
Win 2000 version); getting our UCC to change permissions is a bear, so I want to
be sure before I go making requests...
Thanx,
