Hi,
I'm using Amelia on a panel dataset. The main variables that I'm imputing are nominal variables. I'd like to include lags/leads of those variables, since they are the best predictors of the missing values, but I'm not sure if the lags/leads option can handle nominal variables. I ran it and it didn't produce errors but the imputations were pretty far off (this is sort of simulated data, so there is a right answer, and the results here were not much better than random chance). At the moment I've changed the data to what stata calles "wide" format with one observation per individual and a separate variable for each year. This improves the imputations but I wonder whether I'm losing some of the predictive ability because I think the lag and lead are more predictive and I'd have a better estimate of these relationships with the larger sample size in "long" format that pools all of the ages.
Also, on a related note, is there a way to include double lags/leads (t-2, t+2)? I'm assuming this process is different from just creating a variable in the data that is the lag/lead and including it as a regular variable.
Thanks,
Matissa
Hello:
I am using the most recent version of Amelia through R. When I follow the
instructions from the user manual:
" The easiest way to load AmeliaView is to open an R session and type the
following two commands:
> library(Amelia)
> AmeliaView()
This will bring up the
AmeliaView window on any platform."
I get an error message that says:
"Error in structure(.External("dotTclObjv", objv, PACKAGE = "tcltk"), class
= "tclObj") :
[tcl] couldn't open "C:/Program
Files/R/R-2.15.0/library/Amelia/doc/gallery19.gif": no such file or
directory."
I also can not load it from the desktop. Is there any immediate obvious
reason why this is happening?
thanks for your help.

Hi everyone,
With the mi.meld command I get the sense it is geared toward running
analysis on the multiply imputed data.
I multiply imputed values into a dataset about state attorneys general,
mostly things like budget and staff size. I want to take these values and
insert them into another dataset about court cases. So, the values I
imputed are all controls.
When I look at the mi.meld command it seems it is geared toward running
actual analysis and seems to require said analysis to create a unified
dataset. I'm not sure how to proceed, I need to get a unified dataset out;
but I do not have any 'dependent variable' or model in my data.
Thanks, I appreciate your input!

Dear all
I have a question concerning the inclusion of (auxiliary) variables into
the missing data procedure. I understand that a rather "inclusive"
strategy can increase efficiency and reduced bias.
Now, I also have the feeling that the inclusion of a certain (auxiliary)
variable can have an additional cost that depends on the degree of
missingness of this (auxiliary) variable itself. If the latter is "too
high", couldn't this result in a higher disadvantage of including this
variable relative to the advantage (increase in efficiency and/or
reduced bias) that the inclusion of the variable could have? If yes,
does there exist a measure/rule of thumb to evaluate and judge on this
trade off?
Thank you for your efforts.

Hi,
I have a question about imputation disgnodtics, the imputed and observed densities of polity 2 are quite different, first one with central density, second one with two hills. Also, I could not figure out how to interpret overimputation graph. There are vertical lines all around with different colors and I dont know which one denotes observed or imputed values. For 90 percent comfidence , should these vertical lines concentrate on the leftside of the graph? My vertical lines is scattered all around, is this a sign of trouble? One last question, since there are five imputations, should I try all of them in stata for robustness check or would using just one of them is fine? Thank you very much

Dear Prof King,
I am new to Amelia. I try to impute a data set with 8400 obs and 32 vars in total, 14 vars have missing obs, some a lot like around 4 000. Since I have many missing obs, I set the ridge prior to 40, is that correct? I also chose time spline with k=1 and interaction with cross section, is that also correct option for a tscs data?
My second question is: how long on average does it take to complete imputation? I am waiting for 12 hours and do not see any progress at all yet, the computer is running but there is no imputation yet. Is it because I put ridge option to 40 or because of many logical bounds and log transformations that I set for my vars? Thank you very much

Matt,
I did exactly what you suggested on my Mac, but I too get the error
message described previously and nothing actually happens...
> AmeliaView()
Loading required package: tcltk
Loading Tcl/Tk interface ...
Can anybody help? Thanks!

Hello,
I am somewhat new to Amelia. I had previously successfully run Amelia a few
times with Windows XP and just reinstalled R and Amelia on my new device
which runs Windows 7. I have successfully installed R but would prefer to
use Amelia View as standalone program as I am a novice at R as well.
Whenever I try to load Amelia View the black window shows up for a split
second before vanishing. I also installed R and Amelia on a Windows Vista
machine with the same result. I tried searching through the mailing list
for fixes and tried loading Amelia from within R but am getting an error
message every time. I also tried running R and Amelia with administrative
privileges in case it's an issue with later versionof Windows. More
specifically, here's the error message:
Loading required package: tcltk
Loading Tcl/Tk interface ... done
Error in structure(.External("dotTclObjv", objv, PACKAGE = "tcltk"), class
= "tclObj") :
[tcl] couldn't open "C:/Program
Files/R/R-2.15.0/library/Amelia/doc/gallery19.gif": no such file or
directory.
If anyone knows a fix to this, I'd appreciate a response.
Best,
N. Avdan
