Subject: EM16: Whisky Lecture & Tasting on Tuesday (Dec 7, 1pm)
To: Yves Chretien <chretien at stat.harvard.edu>
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
Although I am on sabbatical this year, the "happy course" EM 16
continues, and it is taught by Yves (a happy team member!). He has arranged
a grand finale lecture on statistics and Whisky, followed by a grand
Whisky tasting -- you all are invited! Both events are in Science
Center (Lecture 309; tasting, 7th Floor Stat Dept.)
For those who have ever used or heard about Wishart Distribution,
that's David's father. Apparently, it runs in the family, as David has
its own Distributors! :-) Yves told me that we have already received
about 20 bottles of Whiskies from various distributors. So for anyone
who is interested in Whiskies, well, you don't want to miss this
opportunity! (And bring your ID!)
Details are in the email below and in the attached poster. I'm also copying
this email to Yves, so you can be in touch with him directly should
you have any question or need more information.
With holiday greetings to all,
Xiao-Li

Subject: Invitation to Whisky Lecture & Tasting on Tuesday
Dear All,
We're excited to welcome Dr. David Wishart as the Grand Finale Speaker for
this year's EMR16 (Real-Life Statistics) course. David will speak to us
about his application of clustering methods to whisky tasting and
classification (please see attached flyer). As the author of a popular book
on the subject, David is a celebrity in the world of fine whisky.
After the lecture, David will host a tasting of fine whiskies in the
department. Taste the results of his modeling for yourself!
LECTURE: Tuesday 12/7, 1pm, SC-309
TASTING: Tuesday 12/7, 2:30pm, 7th floor
We hope to see you for the talk and tasting!
Cheers,
Yves
