Hi everyone,
Just a reminder that the deadline to choosing a paper to replicate and
having it approved is this Wednesday, March 2. If you are still looking for
a co-author, please e-mail me (not the Class list) and include a brief
description of what subject areas you are interested in. I will help you
find a co-author. Extension school students, you can ignore this e-mail.
Hope everyone is having a great weekend!
Best,
Molly

Gov 2001,
Just a quick reminder to everyone that for lecture we are switching

Since this is a much larger room we are pleased to invite an auditors

We look forward to seeing you all there on Monday!

Hi class,
Is anyone else having trouble loading the "presidential" dataset for Problem
Set 4?
I thought I loaded it correctly, but then when I try to do anything with the
data, R doesn't seem to find it. For example, if I type in "presidential",
it gives me "Error: object 'presidential' not found". If I type in ls(),
presidential doesn't show up as an object in the workspace.
Is there something wrong with the file or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks!
Rachel

Hey Everyone,
We think we have fixed all the issues with people accessing the videos
through the extension school. If you are still having issues can you
shoot me an email with you Harvard ID # (again just me, not the list).
Thanks!
Also as a reminder- section this week is just a Q&A so you don't need
to come if you don't want to. If you have anything you'd like to talk
about in particular feel free to shoot Molly and I an email in
advance. Otherwise- come armed with questions!
Brandon

It shows that "the system is currently unavailable" right now. I am
wondering when I could access to video annotation for lecture 4. Best,
Yanfang

I'd recommend that you each strongly consider going to this conference. its
a great opportunity to meet a lot of people across the country in a highly
informal and intellectually stimulating setting. Plus they pay...

Subject: [POLMETH] 2011 Summer Meeting
To: POLMETH(a)artsci.wustl.edu
CALL FOR PROPOSALS: PolMeth XXVIII: The 28th Annual Summer Meeting of the
Society for Political Methodology at Princeton University, July 28-30, 2011.
WHAT IS THIS?
We invite applications to attend or participate in the 28th annual Summer
meeting of the Society for Political Methodology (a group separate from but
nearly coincident with the APSA Political Methodology Section). This year we
are generously hosted by Princeton University (http://polmeth.princeton.edu)
and expect to have a very stimulating program. Past participants often
describe these meetings as the most lively and intellectually engaging
academic experience in Political Science. Graduate students and faculty
interact closely together over the continuous formal and informal sessions.
Also, nearly all of the papers presented at past conferences over the last
three decades have been published in leading journals of the field.
WHO SHOULD APPLY NOW?
- Faculty who want to present papers or posters
- Faculty volunteering to discuss
- Faculty who simply want to attend
- Junior faculty who want to be considered for limited funding
- Graduate students who want to attend or a present poster
(in other words: everybody). The DEADLINE for applications is March 15.
Unlike other Political Science conferences these dates are ABSOLUTELY FIRM.
No late applications will be accepted under any circumstances.
HOW DOES ONE APPLY?
Complete the simple forms at the SPM webpage:
http://polmeth.wustl.edu/conferences/2011/1_apply/apply.php
WHAT CAN BE PROPOSED?
Faculty applicants are invited to propose a poster, a paper, a complete
panel; to act as a discussant; or simply to attend the meeting. Graduate
students are strongly encouraged to propose a poster presentation, which has
a long history of being career-enhancing, but may also apply just to attend.
All research topics relevant to political methodology are welcome.
Courtesy of the National Science Foundation, we are able to fund 30-40
graduate students whose poster proposals are selected as the most promising.
All graduate students need to supply a letter from a faculty sponsor. In
addition, we fund a limited number of junior faculty at departments with
restricted travel funds. Other faculty are expected to seek support from
their home institutions to cover their travel and hotel expenses.
QUESTIONS? CONCERNS?
Feel free to direct any procedural questions to me: jgill(a)wustl.edu.
-Jeff

Hi Brandon/Molly,
I was wondering if you could post (or point me to) the "Questions and Notes" slides Gary uses in class?
Thanks,

Hi class,
I'm wondering if anyone is taking this course online and does not live in the Boston area. If so, please let me know as I'd like to set up a way to work with you on the problem sets, remotely.

Hi class,
I hope I’m not too late on this one, but I don’t know many people in the class and I definitely don’t have a co-author yet. In the spirit of interactivity, it might make sense to put our preferred topics into a spreadsheet and sort ourselves into partners that way. Here’s a link to a google spreadsheet I put together: https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?hl=en&hl=en&key=tID3Aw_l3_ui_7Hpj6Xxpww… . If people write down their topics of interest and contact info, it might help us pair up. If somebody wants to make this spreadsheet better or input any other relevant columns, go ahead.

Gov 2001 students,
A few updates:
1) We are moving to S-010 (Tsai Auditorium) for lecture for the rest
of the semester.
2) As a consequence of the above, we welcome auditors to return to lecture!
3) We are still working on access issues with the video. We're very
sorry this isn't yet resolved. We are doing as much as we can on our
end.
4) We've posted three successful replication papers which appeared in
APSR, IO and JOP (on the replication paper page).
I hope everyone is well. We'll see you in section tomorrow night!
Brandon
