Greetings fellow gov2001 students from last year.
I run a small consulting company (see www.data-miners.com) in Boston where
we nearly always could use some part time help.
I think that anyone who enjoyed Gov2001 might also enjoy this work. The
ideal person would be both knowledgeable about statistics and creative.
For example, faced with an existing model with multicolinearity
problems, think of ways to combine variables that reduce the problem
while retaining model interpretability (like height and weight
-> obesity index).
The work has nothing to do with political science. We analyze data for
commercial marketing purposes. Examples include forecasting future
subscriber levels for a wireless carrier, identifying good markets for a
property insurance company, and predicting time to bankruptcy for consumer
loan holders.
In addition to data analysis, the job would include testing and
proofreading of exercises for data mining classes and data preparation
tasks.
Knowledge of SAS and SQL would be useful, but willingness to learn such
tools is all that is required.
Hours are flexible and could expand to full time in
summer if desired. I am looking for someone who is physically located in
the Boston area and able to spend some time in our office in the North
End.
The pay would be $15 to $20 depending on experience and goodness of fit of
your skill set.
Contact me via emaail if interested. Feel free to pass this on to other
well-qualified candidates.
