Hi Everyone,
We know that some people are having trouble accessing the videos from
this year (section and lecture videos). If you are having trouble
please email me your HUID as soon as possible. I am compiling a big
list to send to IT, Remember to send it just to me (don't reply to
the whole list!)
Even if you have already sent me an email about this, please send it
again now (this will save me a lot time and I don't run the risk of
missing anyone!). Thanks everybody! Sorry there has been trouble-
its largely out of our hands!
Brandon

Hi, I am confused about solving for the MLE analytically. Should we be using
the deriv function in R? And if so, once we get an output from the deriv
function, how do we set it equal to 0 and solve for beta?

Hi Brandon,
I can't access video annotation even though I logged in. It shows as the
following. Best, Yanfang

Hi All,
For those trying the second challenge problem on the homework, I
wanted to note a couple of things.
1) We made a typo so it should read \sigma_2^2 > \sigma_1^2
2) We added the link to the Imai/Tingley paper just for interest: we
did not intend for you to code up an EM solution to this. We will get
there in a few weeks (as a challenge problem anyway).

Hi all,
Estimating the maximum of a uniform distribution (Optional Challenge Problem
2 in PS2) was applied in World War II to have the best guess of the number
of German tanks. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_tank_problem Methods
was also developed to corrected the bias in estimation. Pretty cool!
Best,
Yanfang

Good Morning!
I would like to know if anyone is still searching for a paper partner. My
interests are both:
Constitutional/Institutional Development
and
Class, Race, Inequality Issues - specifically at the neighborhood, urban
level
However, I'd love to work on something completely new as well.
Let me know if you're still searching.
Best of luck on Pset 2,
Mike Hankinson

Gov 2001,
The answers are now up. Several people pointed out that there was an error.
This is what happens when you don't recompile your tex code. Good catch
everyone! The new version is up.

We are having another optional R review section tonight. We will be in room
K262 from 7PM-8:30PM (or whenever we run out of questions). I'll see you all
then.

GOV 2001 Students,
We have two important and related announcements. First, we will be moving
back to K354 on Monday, second we are asking that those not taking the
course for credit (auditors) to not attend lecture (although you are more
than welcome to continue participating by viewing the lecture videos and
coming to section). We are really sorry to have to limit auditors, but we
simply do not have space in the room.
We are continuing to try to improve the course and we take your feedback
very seriously. Again this week we have included an open comment question
on the reading quiz which we encourage you to fill out if you want to tell
us anything about the material, the course or what you are struggling with.

Hi,
Does anyone know if there is an easy way to organize and print the annotations we make for each chapter of the reading?
Thanks,
Liz
