Can you please paste the exact code you are trying to run? This will make it
easier to figure out what is going on.
Also can you run the examples given in the help-file? If so, it's worth
looking at how your use of the function differs from that in the help file.

it looks like pdata.frame() should exist and do what you want, but
doesn't. The current documentation for plm functions don't seem to
reference needing a specific pdata.frame, though, so it could be that
they got rid of it in newer versions (although May 2007 is pretty
recent). Maybe try an older version or play around with plm.data(),
which claims, "This function transform a data frame in a format
suitable for the use of the estimation functions of plm."
