Hi I was wondering what type of plots part a.) and b.) of section "Properties of Estimators" are being asked for? For example a scatterplot of the means estimated by the two methods, or a histogram? Or do we have a choice in choosing what type of graph. thanks, ~Luyi Z.

Hi, The standard approach in Gov 2000 was to use a kernel density curve to represent the simulated sampling distribution. This gives pretty much the same picture as a histogram, but it looks cleaner and it is easier to add things like a line for the distribution?s mean, etc. The code is like: plot(density(sim_results)) Andrew On 2/22/07 1:49 AM, "Luyi Zhao" <luyizhao at fas.harvard.edu> wrote:

Hi Luyi, you will have to plot the (empirical approximations) to the sampling distributions of the two estimators. A density plot would be the most appropriate for that. Take a look at the R code I showed during the R help session. It has an example. Holger Luyi Zhao wrote:

New subject: [gov2001-l] Plots in Latex using TexShop

Hi All. I'm trying to produce a plot in Latex using TexShop, a version of WinEdt for macs. Could anyone (PC or mac user) direct me in getting started? It seems from previous emails that I need to save my R graph with a ps extension. Once I do this, how do I import it into my Tex document? Thanks, Sheila

Hi Sheila, I don't know TeXShop, but if you look at the sample LaTeX code we posted on the class website, you'll find code for incorporating postscript graphs into LaTeX. Holger Sheila K. Reiss wrote:

New subject: [gov2001-l] Plots in Latex using TexShop

Hi Sheila, Hi all, I'm not sure if TeXShop has this same feature, but WinEdt has a menu bar called "Insert." If you select this, and then scroll down to "objects," and choose "figure," it will automatically insert the shell text, and you will just need to fill in the name of your file (the R graph that you saved with a .ps extension). New subject: [gov2001-l] Plot in LaTex Issues?

Hi all, First, thanks to everyone that helped solve this issue last night! At any rate, if you're having problems uploading a plot from R to LaTeX, try inputting the following script (A) into LaTeX instead: \begin{minipage}{\textwidth} \begin{center} \scalebox{0.5}{\includegraphics{myplot}} \end{center} \end{minipage}\\ And then perform the necessary Texify, DVI/PDF procedures thereafter. For some weird reasons, after testing everything else out, this was the only other solution that solved the problem. Best, Hai
