If I'm running R in a ESS window, how do I nice it? I normally
start R with M-x R, so should it be M-x nice R or something like
that?
Thanks

Dear All,
The System Manager tells me that my R process has been terminated because it is
not "nice." Could somebody advise me as to how to make my R process "nice?"
Usually I just type Meta-X R to start my session so I don't know what my R.bin
is...

The following process owned by user lipscy, executing on host
ice2.fas.harvard.edu, was terminated because it exceeded FAS usage limits.
PID USERNAME NICE START TIME COMMAND
31084 lipscy 0 Thu Feb 6 21:17:48 2003 R.bin
The maximum CPU time allowed for non-privileged, non-niced processes on
the nice servers is 10 minutes.
If you wish your process to run longer than that, you must use the
"nice" command, as follows:
Instead of
R.bin
type
nice +10 R.bin
Thank you for your cooperation.

Colleagues,
John Bright (brightjo(a)gse.harvard.edu) and I are looking to form a study
group to work collaboratively on problem sets. Neither of us have
experience with R, so we are hoping to hook up with a couple of folks who
know the package well. We are planning to get together to work on this
week's assignment after class on Monday. Let either of us know if you
would be interested in joining us.
Cheers,
David

Additionally, if you have Acrobat Reader 5, it will "Distill" PS

Dear All,
If you are running out of space on your FAS account, you can get your quota
increased by 100MB by following the instructions on this page:
http://www.fas.harvard.edu/computing/kb/kb0029.html
It only requires an e-mail but it takes several days for them to respond.

Kosuke,
I wanted to take a look at some of the handouts posted on the gov 2001
website, but I am not familiar with how to access postscript files. Any
hints?
Thanks, David
Hi all,
Everything appears to be installed correctly. My VNC viewer opens -- it
takes my password and session number, anyway. But the viewer only
displays this blank black and white background. No menus show up if I
left- or right-click the mouse. Nor does scrolling help; there's nothing
anywhere on the desktop. I've tried killing my VNC session and creating a
new one, but no change. Any thoughts?
Anna
Hi everybody,
I'm working on a research design to explore the use of gendered voices in
political advertising. If this piques your interest, I invite you to join
me! Conversely, if you have a project idea that might benefit from a
theorist's perspective, let me know. (I'm still working out the details
of my proposal, so I'm not yet committed to it.) My research background
is mainly in political communication and feminist theory.
I get the sense from emails floating around off-list that a number of us
are still working out project ideas and partnerships. Maybe this list can
help us sort things out more expeditiously.
