Dear Lori,
I just tested that the Windows Amelia version works in XP (on a similar
machine). When it runs, three windows are generated: A dos window that
pretty empty, a window entitled GAUSS, and another entitled GAUSS-DOS.
This last window should contain the Amelia user frontend and be ready to
run.
One guess I have is that the Amelia directory you have created does not
obey the old DOS conventions, and this seems to cause problems to the
GAUSS engine we use (See the FAQ at the end of the Amelia manual for an
explanation). That is, all the names of all the folders in the path to
where you have installed Amelia must each be less then 8 characters long,
and contain no spaces, or underscores or other non-alphanumeric symbols.
Otherwise, I can not readily think of a problem, and just to reiterate, it
is not an XP problem. If the pathname is not the problem, perhaps you can
give us a few more details, and my colleagues may have more ideas.

Hi,
I downloaded the self-extracting executable for Windows from the website,
unpacked it into an Amelia directory in the C: root and got no error messages
on the unpack. However, when I invoke AMELIA.BAT I get an empty dos-type
window, and a program icon on my task bar that says "GAUSS" - but when I click
on that nothing happens.
This is on a Windows XP system with a very fast processor and over a gig of
memory. Any suggestions on how to get this program launching?
Many thanks,
Lori
