I actually like the threeparttable package for this much better than
using \caption{}. Put
\usepackage{threeparttable}
in the preamble and then make your table something like this:
\begin{table}
\centering
\caption{Title for Table}
\smallskip
\begin{threeparttable}
\begin{tabular}{lllll}
\hline\hline
& Estimate & Std. Error & z value & Pr(>|z|) \% \
\ \hline\hline
(Intercept) & -0.26907 & 0.15981 & -1.68 & 0.0922 . \\
X1 & 0.08562 & 0.07156 & 1.20 & 0.2315 \\
X2 & -0.01863 & 0.03024 & -0.62 & 0.5379 \\
X3 & -0.00815 & 0.01079 & -0.76 & 0.4500 \\
\end{tabular}
\begin{tablenotes}
\item[a] Text for note 1
\item[b] Text for note 2
\end{tablenotes}
\end{threeparttable}
\end{table}
I think this looks considerably better if you have very much text
that you want to include as a note on the table, and I think it looks
closer to the tables in most journals.
Alternatively, I think you can put the table in a minipage
environment and then just use footnotes.

Hi all,
Does anybody know how can I add a note to a figure using Latex? By
"note" I mean a brief explanatory paragraph that visually matches
the inserted figure.
Best,
