While we're talking about Latex, is there a
convenient way to make Latex
line up the decimal points in my tables?

use \caption{your text}.
Sometimes if your caption is a long paragraph, a smaller font size
looks best. You can set the text size with \small{} or
\footnotesize{} inside \caption{}.
